Certification Renewal

To renew your certification, you must first complete the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Please note: Your CEUs must be successfully completed before your certification renewal can be issued.

Continuing education is an important part of maintaining professional competency in healthcare. As the healthcare field continues to evolve, allied health professionals must stay current with new knowledge, skills, procedures, and practices that apply to their specific roles and responsibilities. 

To renew your NBHP certification, you are required to complete 10 credit hours of continuing education during your certification renewal period.

Continuing education credits are based on the amount of time spent completing an educational activity. For example, if you complete a continuing education course that is worth 2 hours, you will receive 2 continuing education credits.

A current CPR certification card is required and is worth 4 continuing education credits toward your renewal.

Most CPR certifications are valid for 2 years. If your CPR certification is current, you may email a copy of your CPR card to us for your records.

Each continuing education course completed through NBHP is worth 3 continuing education credits unless otherwise stated.

You must successfully complete the required course material and assessment in order to receive credit for the course.

If you have completed continuing education through another recognized organization, you may submit those credits for consideration toward your NBHP renewal.

For example, P.A.C.E.® continuing education sponsored by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) may be submitted as outside continuing education.

Please email your certificates or other documentation showing completion of your outside CE courses to us. Documentation should include the course name, completion date, and number of continuing education credits awarded.

• 10 continuing education credits are required for certification renewal.
• CEU credits are earned during the applicable certification renewal period.
• A current CPR certification card is required and is worth 4 continuing education credits.
• Each continuing education course is worth 3 credits, unless otherwise specified.
• Outside continuing education credits may be submitted for consideration toward your renewal.
• All CE documentation must clearly show the course name, completion date, and number of credits awarded.
• Students may email their CPR card and outside CE certificates for documentation.
• All required continuing education must be completed before your recertification can be processed.

Once your recertification payment has been received, you will receive a link to access your continuing education courses.

You can complete your CE courses online at your own pace. All required CE courses and assessments must be successfully completed before your recertification documentation is issued.

Reinstatement:

• If your certification has expired, you may apply for reinstatement within 6 months of the expiration date.
   
• To reinstate, you must:
   
  • Submit the reinstatement application.
     
  • Pay the reinstatement fee of $200.00.
     
  • Complete any required continuing education or refresher training.
     
• Certifications expired more than 6 months will require retaking the certification exam
